How to prepare digital images for POTY, in Photoshop

Size of image for projection is 1400 x 1050 pixels

Always work on your images as a PSD file (saving regularly) – definitely not as a JPEG (every time you work on a JPEG you lose information!)

Once you are happy with the final image follow the procedure below.

1. Go to Image -> Image Size

Picture
This gives the original size of your image.

For example image width is 2634 and height is 2833 pixels.

2. Make Alterations to Image Size

Picture
Make alterations in the order listed below:

Set Resolution to 150 pixels/inch

If image taller than its width set Height to about 1000 pixels

If image wider than its height set Width to about 1300 pixels

Make sure the Scale Styles, Constrain Proportions and Resample Images boxes are all ticked

Click
OK

Example image is taller than it is wide so the resolution was set at 1000, width of 930 pixels was set automatically.

* Optional - at this stage you may want to add a fine border (Stroke) around the image - see panel at bottom of page
After adding stroke continue to follow steps 3-5.
.

3. Make alterations to Canvas Size

Picture
Go to Image -> Canvas Size

Ensure that the Relative box is not ticked

Set Width at 1400 pixels

Set Height at 1050 pixels

Set Canvas Extension Colour as Black

Click OK

4. Check final Image Size

Picture
 Go to Image -> Image Size

Check image is correct size (Pixel Dimensions)

5. Save as JPEG

Picture
Save as JPEG

Quality = 12

Slider to
large file

Other options as default

Click OK

(Optional - add Stroke to image)

Picture
Go to Select -> All

Go to Edit ->
Stroke

Set Pixel Width at 2 pixels

Click on the colour shown and then use the Colour Picker to choose a colour for the border – usually a mid-tone grey is good (or another neutral colour in your image) – don’t make it bright and intrusive though!

Location – Inside, Centre or Outside

Blending –choose blending mode

Click OK

                                                                                                                      Continue from step 3.
